Petition to the Supreme Court seeking annulment of elections in Pakistan

 


A writ petition has been filed in the Supreme Court of Pakistan seeking to cancel the general elections held on February 8 in Pakistan. A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa will hear the matter on Monday, February 19. The other two members of the bench will be Justice Mohammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Mosharat Hilali. The petition names the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and the federal government as respondents. Meanwhile, PML-N is trying to quickly finish the work of sharing posts in the government formation

Appeal to the Supreme Court

Ali Khan, a citizen, has petitioned the court to order fresh elections to be held within 30 days. He demanded that this general election be held under the supervision of the judiciary to ensure impartiality, transparency and accountability. Besides, Ali Khan has sought a stay on the formation of the new government until this petition is resolved. PTI-backed independent candidates won 92 seats, Nawaz Sharif's Muslim League 75 in Pakistan's general election held on February 8.
