Turkey gives green signal to Sweden's NATO accession

 

Türkiye has finally given the green signal to Sweden to join NATO. This decision was taken by the Foreign Affairs Commission of the country on Tuesday (December 26). Al Jazeera news. Later, the country's parliament will vote on this proposal for the final decision. Since the beginning of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Sweden has been trying to join the US-led NATO. However, the country has not yet become a member due to Turkey's obstruction.

Ankara accuses Stockholm of harboring Kurdish rebels. In addition, the relationship between the two countries was also heated due to the burning of several Qurans. Recently, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has indicated that Sweden is flexible on the issue, despite the US giving the green signal for the sale of F-16 fighter jets to Ankara.
